WTB a new car :(

since i dont know where to post this and im going to need a new car here goes. my mom borrowed my mk2 golf diesel to go to a dinner with her old school mates. at around 9:40pm i get a call. "your mom's been in an accident, she's ok but hurt" i got in my truck and went to the accident. (i'll update with pics later) there were probably 20 police/fire/rescue cars there. i finally got sombody to talk to me and from what i gather a big suv was coming down the windey twisty hill and my mom was going up the hill(on her way home) the person in the SUV was traveling
too fast or not paying attention or somthing I DONT KNOW
and drifted accros the lane and hit the drivers from side of the car. the force of the impact ripped the spindle/wheel combo off of his car and totaled my car......i was soo shaken up that i couldnt even talk really. needless to say my car is done for. i will no longer be able to fix it up, and make it really nice. i am probably going to get another mk2 or 4 idi/tdi. depending. my mother is "ok" but is getting surgery on her arm as i type this. from what they tell me it will take atleast 2 surgery's and there isnt much bone left in the arm to work with. all of my tools were in the car all of the school books i have are in the car. i guess im kinda numb right know. i've put a lot of work into the car and a lot of money. and to have it all taken away in 1 night is a weird feeling .
thanks for reading this,
steve
edited to be as I DONT KNOW as possible

That sucks! Hope Mom makes out ok, that's the priority here. It might cost you, but the car can be replaced. Moms are a little tougher to come by!
Once everything is sorted with mom, go get all your stuff out of the car asap. Talk o the insurance company, you NEED those school books. Get all the rest (tools)while you can, and write a list of everything in the car that was worth anything. If you didi a pile of work on the car, find reciepts, pictures, anything you can that backs up the value of the car. Good luck!

All the best to you mom. Hopefully the healing process goes quickly.
If you have upgrades on the car that are swapable, I would try and buy it back from the insurance company

Glad Mom is ok, for the most part.
That's what counts.
Ebay, craigslist, VW websites will get ya another car, I'm sure you are aware.
Hell, have a rebuilding party like someone else suggested. But serve the beer AFTER the work is done........
Stay safe, stay well. Best to your mother.

total shame... i hate hearing stories like this. the other driver should be charged with criminal negligence causing bodily harm. i hope your mom gets better... the rehab process will be long and painful
its just totally unecessary! it's people who don't know how to control their vehicles and compensate for weather/road conditions... makes me sick just thinking about it so i'll stop there.
if your insurance company tries to settle it fast, tell them no. that you had a bunch of work done to the car engine wise and body wise. if you can provide receipts that is better, but even without you can haggle a bit to squeeze more money out. and for your mother, make sure she calls one of those lawyers i see on tv all the time. do NOT let her take a lump sump settlement. there always seems to be long term effects with these types of accidents. my aunt took a lump sum settlement of $20'000 for an accident she got in, but that barely covered the physio, as well as needing to take a year off work. she totally got screwed over!!! i HATE insurance companies!!!!!!!!!!!!!
i hope a good car comes your way

just a quick update.
they decided to do the whole surgery in 1 operation instead of 2. she's ok and in one of those resting bed rooms (never been into a hospital before so i dont know what there called) i'll probably go see her as soon as my dad gets home.
i called the towing place that has my car. and they wany 80$ to get my stuff out because its after hours. I didnt think tow truck places had After hours...sucky. well thats it for now. i'll probably wait till monday when i can get in there for free to get my stuff.

Hope your mother recovers fully and quickly.
If you have any parts on the car you consider valuable or that you would like back, I would ask the insurance company to quote you what they will give you if you write the car off, and how much they will give you if you keep the car. On the last car I did this, the difference was $50 (yes, fifty). If you have the room to keep the car and won't get hassled by neighbors if you have a damaged car in your yard, this would allow you to buy a gasser and swap over if you wanted to go that way.

I'm glad your mom is "ok". Considering how light Mk2's are and the relative lack of safety features, she is lucky to be alive.
Yeah, that sucks about putting so many hours into a car and making it your own. It can be taken away in a flash. It's sort of like the relationships we make with people. I guess that's why it's so important to really just enjoy the journey of working on your car because the end result can be fleeting.

Cars can be replaced, moms cant. You and your mom need to talk to a lawyer before you do anything else. DO not sign anything from the insurance company. Do not talk to the others drivers insurance company whatsoever, I mean zero contact. For that matter, I would be very careful what you post here on the forum. Insurance investigators are straight up evil bastards who will go to great lengths to not pay you. If you do not have a lawyer that the family uses then drop me a pm. My family is chock full of em, they have there own law firm. If you want, you can talk to them on the phone just to get some advice, no strings attached.
Take lots of pictures of the vehicle damage, both cars if possible.
Glad your moms ok.

I take it from the pics you had the car brought to your place. Good plan. Fought with an insurance company a few years ago when I was hit from behind, car was in my yard and I didn't bother with a rental that my policy said I could have, drove my truck instead. Took a while, but the initial offer was 500 bucks. I got almost 2000 once the adjuster saw the condition of the car, kept the car, and sold it to someone who needed an engine for another 500. stick to your guns!

sorry to hear about your lost, but most important is your mom's alright.
everyone else is right stay away from the insurance company, and talk to a personal injury lawyer FIRST. more than likely someone will take your case on a contingent basis coz it looks like your mom is not at fault here just by looking at the pictures.
i used to live in south everett for many years and there's lot of very good attorneys in the seattle area.
hope for quick recovery on your moms operation.
