I recently changed the transmission oil on my car.
I filled with redline mt-90
how long do these gear oil last before the next oil change ?
1986 golf 1.6

i'm on my third year...  the original oil was probably never changed, and it looked really disgusting... was in there for 12 years?  :lol:

VW says it's supposed to good for the life of the car.  :lol:  If you changed it every 80,000 - 100,000 km (60,000 miles) or so, I'm sure you would never have any problems.  Gear oil doesn't have to contend with nearly as many contaminants as engine oil.

Generally I say change gear oil every 100,000 miles, auto tranny fluid every 40,000 miles (50,000 for 01M).
