Water Pump "Slip" Pulley - Repairable/Rebuildable?
«

I've got a 1.6TD with AC and PS. The water pump has a double pulley on it, the inner part is on a bearing so it's really just an idler for the AC belt.
Bearings in mine seem to be shot (it's making lots of noise) - thing is when I had it out a few weeks ago it looks almost new! Can this thing be rebuilt/repaired or is replacement my only option?
Found the part number for it - 068 121 013 L
Looks like it's about a $90 part... What's with VW and all these expensive pulleys with bearings that wear out?!?

The alternator idler pulley has a bearing in the middle that can be replaced with an inexpensive electric motor bearing. If you can get the right part number for the water pump pulley bearing, it could possibly be pressed out and replaced while keeping the rest of the pulley.

Yeah, I actually just did my alternator idler last weekend. The water pump pulley is a bit different though, it's more of a "manufactured" piece.
Looks like I've found a spare... Once I've got an extra one I'll see what can be done with the old one!
