Author Topic: Sensor Information 84 Jetta TD (Read 2979 times)

Anyone have an idea what the sensor it is that is located in the blowby hose goint to the intake tube. It has two wires on it a Black and Grey. I removed it and it looks like it is copper lined on the inside. none of my books show anything and the wiring diagram does not show it. Nothing happened when its disconnected. This is on a 84 Jetta turbo.

It is a heater. Supposed to help remove condensation.

My 85 TD has one also.

In cold weather, it also prevents the crank case vent condensate from freezing where it joins the cold intake air stream.

If you disconnect it in the winter you'll find that the crankcase vent hose freezes shut, the crankcase then pressurizes and you'll develop a bunch of new oil leaks.

Well I guess that will stay hooked up. It also looks like these cars don"t have a fuel heater like the big boys? (5.9 cummins) How bad are the oil pressure sensors on these?? My car has 134,000 km fresh oil change (castrol 15-40 ) and the oil lamp flickers at an idle when hot. And thanks for the replys its nice to be on a good forum.

What kind of oil filter are you running? Usually cheap filters like Fram will cause the light to come on. Always use Bosch, Mann, or Wix.

I am using the VW oil filter. FWIW the car was serviced regulary. I think I will put a gauge on it. Maybe go to the bone yard to see if they have a GLI console.

Here's a quick check - unplug the sensor from the side of the head and see if the light stays off. If not, you can unplug the one from the top of the oil filter and jumper it to ground. Now the light should stay off. If it doesn't then you've got another electrical problem. If it does, perhaps try and change the defective switch.
