Smoke is already flying from the autocross today. After a few comments about Al Gore must hate me... and VW doesn't want people knowing it's a VW diesel...

I'm taking it easy with only 15 psi

I'm taking it easy with only 15 psi
Giles set the pump up for power and throttle response to run 20 psi. I’m running 15psi until retorquing the head stays the same. I figured it would be a lil bit smoky for now. Boost increase will be there in not too long. The first Victor R. fiber gasket blew out on me at 20psi, so I’m being cautious and seating in the Geotze gasket before turning up the boost. I watched EGT’s the best I could and never saw them go over 13-1400. Until someone shows me a VW bulletin that says I can install a metal HG in a mechanical lifter motor, class rules say I have to run the fiber HG.
I was duking it out on raw time with a friend of mine who was driving his Lotus Elise on street tires. We traded back and forth a few times. On my last run I got him by .1 sec. His last run was a spin-it or win-it run. He spun and confirmed that autocrossing on street tires SUCKS!! He will be back on A-compound tires next year. I still need to gain at least 1.5 seconds on a 42 second course. More boost, a few places the car can still loose weight plus me getting back in sync driving it hopefully will get me there.
Oh, and fuel economy with the low geared close ratio trans, commuting a week and autocrossing, just over 37mpg

Nice! What class? Beat some Jap stuff I hope?
I watched US Lemans yesterday: Audi R10, Peugeot Hdi, Audi R10 1st 2nd 3rd. What a beautiful sound it was when those diesels were accelerating together up the back straight! The Peugeot made more power but made some smoke too, the Audi Tdi's had no smoke at all!
I'm hoping to build a Rabbit rallyX'r some day, I used to autocross an Opel Manta, I loved that car.

aww shucks, let me at least win some national events before the autographed posters. The above de-motivational poster was done as a joke by some friends of mine. Thought y'all might get a laugh out of it. Real good picture tho.
I'm running it in FSP. Localy there isn't any other nationaly prepped cars in FSP. The only other guy to show up for FSP sunday was driving a moslty original 1947 MG. He's just having fun and I think I beat him by about 10 seconds. I was shocked I was turning the same times as my friend in the street tired Elise. Amaizing what sticky rubber will do. Earlier this year at the first event I beat some slightly modified FSP Mazda 626's by 4.5 seconds. I felt sorry for them and was going to move to our pro-class until rumors started going around how my motor was illegal. I pointed out the engine codes in the Bently to the guys IN ANOTHER CLASS who were spreading the crap and when they wouldn't accept the bentley manual as the word, I decided to stay in FSP, borrowing HS cars after I blew it up at the Atlanta Doublecross Pro-Solo. I still beat the guys by 3 seconds with the nationaly prepped HS cars. I won the ETN region FSP points championship already this year.
Anyway, I'd love to get one of the new clean diesel motors in an old light car, but that would put me in Street Mod. Been there, done that with an ABA 2.0-16v-turbo. Regionaly there is a very fast Honda and a super light rabbit that are quick, national top dogs now are in a BMW 2002. I'm just trying to get a jump on next year, sort it out, catch stuff before it breaks again, as the first Nat Tour event is around Feb in South Georgia. I have events through November to goto.
I've been regulary getting 48mpg in my 98 Jetta TDi, so the 37mpg almost kinda hurt, but I could explain it away.
