2.5 LT35 swap into a Mrk 4
« on: October 01, 2008, 01:04:21 pm »
Anyone here with experience with the 2.5L LT35 TDI?

Will it fit into a Mrk4..............New Beetle?
what are its dimensions/weight in relation to the 1.9TDI?

Does anyone make a wiring converison harnesses that I might use for this swap?

the beetle is pretty tight... and i HIGHLY doubt the 5 cyl would fit... i'm sure with a lot of modification you could get it in with a shoe horn, but would it really be worth it??? better off to just get a 1.9 or 2.0 PD and tune the hell out of it. 200 hp or so

Someone has put the 174bhp 2.5 PD in a Seat Toledo, which is the same chassis, so it must be doable, I don't know any more about it but I don't think its bolt in. It is mentioned on tdiclub.

2000-2004....its a PD..........from UK........I see variations in HP but my understanding these 2.5L's are all the same engine.

I don't think the LT had PD engines, the T5 got them and so did the Crafter. The LT had 95 and 109bhp models, and a 158 model but that was the 2.8 engine which was not a tdi engine.

Try and get a photo of the engine and you'll be able to tell. If its non-pd you aren't really gaining anything over a 2.5 tdi from an old A6, Volvo 850, T4. The LT engines seem to go for quite a lot of money.

They seem to have the same problem that I did with the max. power dropping so early (4000rpm). Currently I can carry max. power from 4 to 5krpm. Next target is to get 400hp (@5500rpm) with decent low end torgue as I use my van daily. I'm also going to try to do this without NOS.

Here's my old dyno (310hp, 585Nm) with power dropping early:

NICE!

Any thoughts of hp figures? 400hp maybe? What about trap speeds?

I'm told that LT has even stronger bottom end than Volvo or T4. Don't really know how true this is. I'm still using original, unopened bottom end and with next build it will be opened for the first time.
