Injector Hard Lines - Where To Buy
« on: September 29, 2008, 05:38:54 pm »
Are the injector lines a dealership only item?  My #2 injector line cracked today and none of the local parts places seem to even know what I'm talking about.  I gotta get this replaced quick, this is my only car!

I've seen them online on occasion at various parts websites. Used is your best bet. I would be afraid to hear what the dealer charges if they even have them still

The dealer in Canada charges about $100 per line.

I've gotten them for earlier models from these guys for about $13 a piece...  Dunno if they have a lising for yours or not...

Ugh... Not fun...

I haven't had much luck finding ANYTHING in terms of VW wreckers around here.  There's actually a few other bits and pieces I need to find too, but I have a feeling finding a TD in the wrecker is going to be a bit of a challenge.  Even better my 1994 body has a 1988ish engine in it...

importpartsconnection seems to have a good deal, but I notice that the shape of the line is a bit different from mine.  I seem to remember reading somewhere before that the length of these lines is important, and that they all have to be the same... That said though, the line that broke actually was much newer than the rest of them, so it probably wasn't a matched set already...

Seems like as long as the length and inside diameter of the lines is correct, we should be able to fab our own injector lines - stainless, maybe?

Having had one snap in half before, a stronger replacement would be nice.

Anyone know if/why this wouldn't work?

The "bubble" flares at the ends woudl be the most difficult... Haven't found a real good tool for making these yet... You'd have to research your choice of stainless line pretty thoroughly as well. Alot of stainless stuff (lines, bolts, etc) tend to be somewhat soft.... With the pressures the injection operates at there can;t be any give in the stuff..

may also have used lines for a bit cheaper.

It's REALLY hard to find clothes around here that have a tag on them.
Wally World has it wrapped up here :(

Even at our local Farm Store that has everything good luck finding something actually made in the USA..

Or trade deficit blows!

I'd sell you a spare set of mine (1.6) on the cheap, but shipping would probably take forever. NA or TD?
