just like that title asks. I was wondering whats the largest diameter piston you can get for the 1.9l tdi. I've seen .5 and 1mm over.. is that the largest. More curiosity than anything else. Thanks in advance for any help.
I seem to remember 2.5 pistons work, and standard is 81mm, so oversize would be even more.
er ... what about finding any head gasket for those ?
"jimfoo"j ust looking for a quick clarification. 81mm is the stock size for the 2.5 tdi pistons or the 1.9.... I thought 80mm was the stock size for the 1.9 pistons, am I wrong. I'm assuming the 1 over is a 81mm piston, is there any such thing as a 82, 83, or even a 84 mm piston. I mean a mm isn't that much so It seems to me on a worn engine... or one with damage may need bored 2,3,or even 4 mm over stock (ok maybe 4 is pushing it). But still it seems odd to me that 1mm over is the largest size I could find. I look into those 2.5 pistons.... and see what I come up with.
Stock 1.9 is 79.5mm, so the largest oversize I've seen is 80.5mm. The stock 81mm 2.5 pistons are bigger, and probably go to 82mm for a 1mm over. That will take you up to 2 liters. Get too big and the block integrity will suffer. An engine needing 3 or 4mm overbore would be scrap iron.
were would one find the 2.5 pistons
ye use pistons off a 2ltr TDI, probly easyer to just change the block than get it bored TBH
