Bora 115TDi lack of power
« on: September 23, 2008, 05:59:45 am »
2001 Bora 115TDi just purchased 104k. I had 2003 Passat 100TDi 83k and it went like a rocket but the Bora with more HP is sluggish. Turbo cuts in at 1500 rpm, gets to 2000rpm and then is slow to 2500rpm. After that is good but won't go over 4000rpm. No dashlights on & no fault codes. Once speed is attained it will stay there. Cruises at 90-100mph comfortably. Tech reckons air mass meter or timing. He's replacing timing kit so will check it today. Anyone else has ideas or had this problem please feel free to comment. Many thx.

i'd say flush out your intercooler and all piping.  and do the CCV mod (crank case vent) as it will dump the blowby into the intake and mix with the exhaust gases and coat everything... this will reduce the efficiency of the intercooler, piping, and the intake manifold/ports. there was a neat thread a little while ago about one from raycor i believe.  this will also reduce the mess in your intake, but that should also be cleaned.  if it's bad enough, you won't believe the difference it will make

but the MAF is probably also a culprit.  pretty expensive too if you want OEM.

http://forums.tdiclub.com/showthread.php?t=207691  check that out for a good way of cleaning the intake

Picking up car today. Tech replaced the air temp sensor and its like a new car. He did the same on a golf a couple of years ago with the same result. Can't wait to pick it up. The Passatt went as well as my BMW 323 so I'm hoping the bora will be just as good.
