aquiring used set of 1.9 injectors, who to rebuild them, cost?
« on: September 19, 2008, 09:18:30 am »
i am waiting on a set of 1.9TD injectors a gentleman is supose to be sending me and says there are 200 000 on them, well i think mine are getting worse as idle will hang them only way to get it to come down is to let out clutch alittle in first to force it down, it is intermitten sometimes it doens hang it just doesnt come down to the normal 900RPM where its set at it will just idle at 1100 so im assuming injectors, pump was rebuilt and only got 25000 on it

so hopfuly when and if i recieve them im thinkin i should just have them rebuilt, good idea/bad idea???? just run them????
whats the cost in rebuilding them?

never done injectors before so what the best way to get them out, have heard of people cracking the casting (mechanic told me this) trying to get them out????????

information bout this would be great, thanks in advance

Best way to remove them without breaking the head is with a air impact wrench.

Send them to Giles to get rebuilt, I wouldn't run them until you confirm they are good to go.

When you are removing the injectors, you want to push, and not pull on them. Impacts do work well, but I prefer a breaker bar. Work them back and forth. You will need new heatshields. Giles has the equipment to test both opening pressures. It does sound like an injector problem, or a clogged intake/air filter. Do you have EGR?

previous owner broke the injector boss on my head by pulling on the breaker bar undoing them and had it tig'd back together. PUSH them and back them out i'd say 50% of the motion.

Also a little side note. Be careful of the fuel return nozzle thingies (the two on the sides on the tops). if you bend them too many times (or at all really) they snap off and you need to replace the top pieces and re-shim and lapp augh its a mess. get them as close inwards as you can while still being able to put the rubber lines back on so they dont have to get knocked about with the socket.

i'm pretty sure a '97 golf would have an EGR setup... not 100% sure but confident.  sometimes EGR can stick open, and give you really bad idle problems, and even stalling.

looks like a can attached to the exhaust with a black vacuum line going to it.  theres a part that looks like polished nickel that goes from the exhaust to the intake.  should be very easy to spot.

um...  did you use a 1.6 exhaust manifold?  then you should be okay from there, but you also need to block off the egr port on the intake manifold, otherwise you'll lose boost pressure from there or even suck in dirt from the outside.  unless the vacuum controlled valve can hold properly... (but it will open when the engine is cold if left hooked up to its vacuum supply)

ya i used the 1.6 exhaust mani but that line you talking about was attatched to the turbo there was a nipple on the wasegate that it fit on to but there is nothing like that on the K24, u say theres a hole in the intake mani as well......i have it off the car to tap for my EGT gauge and didnt see any hole or anything should i just plug that line....its just sittin in there now......

it won't seem like a hole because the EGR lines are hooked up into the intake (some guys just unbolt it and bolt on a block off plate.)  your intake should be pretty dirty if your motor has EGR.

well i went out there to look and there is like a sensor thing about 1 1/2 high and its kinda round and yes there are 2 vaccum line out from it an in and an out im assuming but anyways what i did, you guys can tell me good or bad

i took it all out, left the clip thing hangin but one end used to plug into the wastgate if i remeber correctly and the other end into this "T" that when the motor was running has a vaccum i put my finger over and you could feel the sucking so i just put a peiace of metal and metal stuck there with the suction and i wraped it in duc tape to hold it on there

idle didnt change any when putting my finger on and off the T but i guess there not a sensor there anymore to register that!

is this what i should have done???
