HI
I have a 91 eco.I bought this with a bad engine,it over heated and cracked the block....I redone my old 85 TD engine and installed it in..
I would like to know some things about the cooling on this....
it has a two large cooling fans...WHERE is the relay for this fan? Is it by the glow plug fuse?
The number is 98,would that be it?
The temp raised to 3/4 on the temp gauge and the fan did not come on....
I pulled the temp switch plug on the radiator and tried to jumper the fan to see if it will run,all it does is click the #98 relay...
30 amp fuse is ok..I removed the relay and jumpered the terminals to see if the fan would run BUT....It ran backwards?

?
since this thing cooked the other engine(the old owner is not known)so I do not want to cook this since I have all new stuff including a New head..
please enlighten me on this?

same problem on my '92. Its an ECO with a regular TD engine swapped in. Fan will come on at its leisure, and usually at idle. (damnit!!!) I'm seriously considering putting in a switch on my dash to manually control the fan at this point(or rig something up mcgyver style).

mine only has one fan

you'd have massive cooling with two huge fans!!!

the engine runs like garbage when its hot

My 91 ECO only has one fan as well. Sounds like your going at it the correct way. Not sure on the relay. Do you have a Bentley? They have a wiring schematic in the back and you should be able to trace it from there. If the fan is running backwards I would think it is wired backwards if that is possible. My fan comes on when the temp gage is between the half and three quarts mark. Hopefully someone that knows more will chime in. It is going to get up to 98F/36.6C today so it will be a good test for my new engine. Sorry I couldn't help more.

well I have to tell you that all is well in Turbo Diesel land...
OK here it is.........
I connected the air condtioner plug into the fan connection(I did not pay attention when hooking up wires) so the fan could not make circuit...
connected and jumpered the thermo switch and"TADA" it works..
I feel kind of stupid...I should have double checked first..
this is what happens when you work on them and someone calls and away you go and forget where you were..(been there done that sydrome)...

I've learned the hard way myself, Now with my digital camera, I just snap a few pictures before I start to take things apart, that way I have a reference to go back to. Got to love these color printers.

yes that is the best way to do it...
I did many vw diesel overhauls ...this is the first eco and the wiring and senders are different ...BUT I am getting OLDER!
I see that you have a 65 impala BIG BLOCK.....NICE...
I have a 69 Z28 with a 302....
thats my toy....
its great to have toys...RIGHT...
