ahhh i was worried that extra heat would be from a messed injector or something.

Ok so as a first step to fix my knocking injectors i'll clean them again with brake cleaner/oven cleaner/and then diesel

If you have a leaky injector or a bad spay pattern it can cause damage to the glow plugs. Bad enough problem with the injectors and you start melting things. So if you pull the plugs and one looks different than the others then then it might point towards the problem, ie leaky injector. If you know your timing is way advanced, and you have some wonky glow plugs, you bet you will have smoke even when it is hot, white smoke is unbuned fuel (or a blown HG). Been that route before.

daves car actually dropped a pre cup into the piston from a leaky injector. i know when i had cars that would burn extreme amounts of oil, they would eat glow plugs a ridiculous amount

As mentioned the glow plug has not been lanced; merely swollen. IMO it's a personal thing between 1 glowplug and its power supply :shock:

Thanks mates.
I stop driving it. It's too much of a head ache. I'm always sweating and nervous driving it. If i wake up an hour earlier than normal i can drive my dad to the train and use his car until i build my new one.
So when i have the injectors out should i lap them and have them tested again?
The place i went to tested them for free which was pretty freakin awesome.

If injector is not leaking then don't lap.... Unless you are not happpy with break pressure. Do dismantle and clean though.

So a knocking injector usually means is dirty in some fasion or another. Thanks guys :roll:

If i have the nozzles sit in brake cleaner that wouldnt be detramental to anything would it? There aren't any like ... seals in the nozles that would get messed up or anything

Cleaner fine... everything metal
IMO a knocking injector can mean a good injector, or even your best injector, as the knock can be a sign of perfect combustion. Or maybe break pressure lower than others and so advanced relative to others...

I'm going to go with ... NOT perfect combustion because my engine is messed up.
I think everything is too advanced to make up for the poor starting ability.
Shall soon be all fixed though!

W00t sauce, i fixed the starting issues (except when hot, hot = low compression but never mind that it's much better now)

It's getting slightly colder as im sure most of you know and now in the morning when i start her up she starts quick like 2-3 seconds cranking (thats quick for me) but even with the cold start out it will stall unless i keep my foot on it. I can hold the pedal to the floor for about 5 seconds and it will slowly climb up the rpm and then shoot up and run a little better but still sounding like its on 2 cylinders.
I turned the fuel screw out as far as it would go before it started to sound different and it's still really fast if i put my foot into it and excess fuel i will see behind me (my economy is really pityful 1litre to 10km so im trying to make it better until i can build my new motor)

it's not a pressing matter as im rebuilding within a month but it's frustrating and i was wondering if there are any suggestions. If i turn the fuel screw up it doesn't start so good and im not a fan of the high idle or the smoke/high egt/REALLY bad economy that comes with doing that.

Perhaps adjusting the residual fuel screw or something would help without raising the idle too too much like the fuel screw does?
even when its warm when i stop at a light it chuggs unless i pull the CS out. only when its HOT HOT will it not chugg on idle.
I suppose its possible to turn the fuel screw in slightly enough to make a difference but i also thought this could be an injector problem because two cylinders are definately fine when its chugging and you can feel in the cycle 1 or 2 that aren't fireing very well (or at all)

just gotta bite my lip for the time being?
