Stupid raccoon...(long)

So I was driving home after work last night at around 12:30 am, cruising about 70 down a county highway and a HUGE raccoon decides he needs to cross the road at that particular moment. He makes it across my lane and to the middle of the other lane before he changed his mind and headed back where he came from.
DAMMIT!
So the front of my 06 TDI Jetta now needs a nose job, to the tune of $3500 bucks, and that is body damage only.
After the hit the car would not move under its own power, had a real bad turbo surge if you hit the go pedal, so I had VW roadside tow it to the dealer. I told the insurance company this morning that the car was not to be driven until the dealer had a chance to look at the mechanical damage, and the insurance company agreed and had it towed to a body shop for an estimate.
So the adjuster calss me with his estimate and tells me the body shop drove the car in and looked it over...at that moment I lost it and went completely berzerk on the guy on the phone.
So I officially hate raccoons and insurance adjusters.

Lame. I hope you get this sorted out and it is nothing serious.
If it's any comfort you probably killed the racoon

Oh yeah...he dead.
It was probably the biggest raccoon I've ever seen, and I used to hunt them every year. It was tall enough it bent the license plate and busted the top grille by the VW symbol.

same thing happened to me except i wasn't going nearly as fast! stupid racoon makes it half way across the street, sees me, then proceeds to return as if he thinks he wouldn't make it (but if he just stayed where he was, he wouldnt have made contact.) so i felt the bump, but the racoon dissapeared! silly racoons... sucks about your car though

one thing that makes me mad is when people swerve to avoid these creatures.. i mean sure you don't intentially want to harm them (well maybe some you do..) but you could potentially create an even more devastating accident.

I feel your pain..........i once hit a turkey with my fathers tow truck (f350) and the beak of the bird went though the grill and poped the oil cooler and pumped out all the oil and it misted onto the front windshield. I shut it down in an instant pulled off the the side. A state trooper then pulled off and seen i was broken down and was amazed that a turkey took this big truck out! He then saw i had the dead bird on the back of the truck( iwas going to cook it up when i got home) and forced me to throw it off otherwise i'd be "poaching" since they were out season and i didn't have a tag........prick.....

Don't know about turkeys, but around here if you hit a deer or elk, you can call the division of wildlife, and they will let you keep it. Of course it still sucks as they can do a TON of damage to a car.

Interesting point: I did not have racoons out here for about 6 years. The parvo virus (the one which kills dogs) took them all out....really. I really never missed them.
Now, they are all back and annoying for the above mentioned circumstances. The frontal tin and condensor in my ol' '85 Golf has this road-warrior look.

I feel your pain... nailed a skunk coming home from the cottage at 10PM on Labor Day. Thankfully he was small enough and moving slowly enough so that I could clip it with the control arm and not the radiator. I only had the vague smell of skunk until drove it on the highway in the rain.
Yours really does suck, though.
