TDC cam to crank
« on: August 16, 2008, 06:24:37 pm »
I lost all my papers a while back and im missing just simple key info like lobe positions for TDC
i usually keep the pullys locked in position but i want to re-do the timing with the cam to the crank. I know to use the flywheel for the crank but where should the lobes be? Can the cam be 180 degrees out? or can i just lock the cam on the right hand side at either one of the 180 degree positions.
Thanks,
Ed.

The slot at the flywheel end is offset so your cam lock will only fit with the cam at TDC #1.

but where should the lobes be?

The lobes for #1 should both be "up" and you need to use a locking plate, you can't eyeball it.

i used a file :D
an easy way to think  of it that makes sense is that none of the valves are open.
Thanks guys,
Ed.
