Injector nozzle types
« on: August 13, 2008, 12:15:32 pm »
I have been doing some reading but just want to make sure. I have a 1.9 AAZ TD Jetta. From what I see there are 3 different types of injector nozzles that i can get when rebuilding injectors. I can get the OE 1.9 AAZ nozzle, the GTD nozzle and the mercedes nozzles. Which of these 3 nozzle types has the best spray pattern and the best flow rate? Also, does anyone know where I can get shims for the 1.9 injectors? I have mine apart and it uses 2 different sizes of shims in it. There is a small one (which is smaller than the shims for the 1.6 injectors) and a bigger one. Since there are 2 springs in the injector there is one shim for each spring. I should also say that I am wanting to put a Giles super pump on my car as well so I want to make sure that the nozzles can flow enough fuel for this pump. I am also having my engine rebuilt is there anything I should get done to it to help out for performance? ie. head work  Thanks.

I dont know where you can get shims for those injectors but even if you could it wouldnt do you much good. They have 2 individual pops so if you hook it to a home brew tester it would only hit the first pop at a lower pressure and not the second at a higher pressure. I read the other day Giles has the equipment to do them.

I just did a set of 1.9 injectors with the GTD nozzles to see what would happen. I have a home made pop tester and they popped at 155 bar. I found that the smaller spring in the injector with the smaller shim controls the lower pressure for when it pops. Does anyone know when it pops the second time? Or is it only supposed to pop once? I have these install on my other 94 jetta now and it runs really well, alot better than the old 200 000km injectors.

I think I will have to call Giles about the pump and injectors. I sent him an email already but I will proably give him a call as well. I will get him to match the injectors to the pump.
