Author Topic: Fuel leaking from my water separator. Suggestions??? (Read 5740 times)

After my off road trip in my Golf, I managed to clip the fuel return line(which I fixed)Now I'm seeing a slow leak from my fuel separator box, under the car. It doesn't seem to be coming from one spot, but in a few different spots on the box. Do I need the fuel /water separator? If not, is it hard to remove?

Remove it completly. Replace with a peice of hose, trim back the wires and cap off good so moisture can cause a connection (it happens). then drive away.

You don't need it, and "capping" is referring o the wires that go to it. There is a water sensor in there thus the wires. If you have the energy you can pull the plate in the hatch area over the tank and pull the wires all the way up through so there is no chance of them getting wet.

Definitly not a needed item. If it worries you, buy one of the fuel fitlers with the clear bowl in the bottom of them to see water.

I don't mean to hijack this thread, but since I have a question with respect to this I felt is was not needed to create a new thread.

What kind of hose do you use to link the two hoses together ? do you use spacers or something to link them together.

anything rated for diesel ? Canadian tire / napa carry this ?

last diesel hose I had to get for my injectors had to be purchased a VW directly.

I cut a chunk off one of my parts cars. If you use the end close to the fuel filter you can use the rubber hoes as a conector with some clamps

ok, don't have access to a parts car... so

what kind of hose clamps can I get from my local Canadian tire?

I just used a piece of 5/16" fuel hose. I used the clamps I already had on the fuel line.Unfortunately, I cut the fuel level sender when I was trying to cut the water sensor, so now I need to try to figure out which was which. :shock:

mtnbob... glad you mentioned about the wires... I would have just chopped them.

I think I am going to hold off doing this till I get my Bentley in the mail.. The glow plugs wont get messed up will they ?

Now if I could just figure out which wire was the fuel gauge sensor :shock:

just touch wires together with the ignition on. Either the glow plug light will flash, the fuel gauge will read full or nothing will happen (I think)
You might start an electrical fire but I know if it was me I'd just touch them together until something happened
