I got some bad news at the pump shop today. They resealed my pump and went to calibrate it and for some reason the plunger broke. I need to replace it. It's off a 98 AAZ motor with the adjustable sprocket. Does anybody have a head/plunger? Should I look for one from a different application? I plan on using this in a rabbit pickup with a 2.25 exhaust and an intercooler along with T3 turbo. Help me out people I am good at putting cars together but not much of a pump builder.
Think I'd be taking my pump to another shop myself. I don't think it is easy to break a plunger. I'd make them pay. Aside from that, Prothe at emiata.com has reasonably priced aftermarket heads. I have one in my pump and no problems so far.
easy to mess up when reassembling the pump and not paying attention, but I and a few other "amateurs" have done it successfully, I agree with Jimfoo, they messed up.
who would put a pump together and not test it first by hand??
its like fitting a timing belt and just hit the starter for checking if the valves don't touch the pistons... russian roulette
I agree, it sounds like they messed something up. I think it's just a 9mm plunger and head. Almost all VW VE pumps are 9mm so it should be easy and DIRT cheap to find one. Mind you if you are paying someone to remove and ship it it won't be quite as cheap
I can't use a 1.6 head with the 1.9 camplate, I guess I'll have to get a TDI head from Prothe and put that in. Yeah the guy that resealed the pump for me is a boob.
I do have a 1.9 pump for sale... not sure how it would compare in price to Prothes but it would be OE
Plungers don't break on their own, and when they had it apart to do the seals they would have noticed it was broken before putting it back together.
They owe you a new plunger & pump if they damaged something else in it, which I imagine happened.
I'd tell them you'll accept another pump and they can keep the old one as a core.
