Does this work for my 96 Golf AAZ?

Yes, these mods are for a 1.9 TD AAZ (as in your Golf).  Some of them are applicable to 1.6s and 1.5s as well.  The car in the pics has cruise contol, yours may not and the top of the pump will be different, also your turbo may be different.  Make sure to get a pyrometer though before tweaking the fuel screw.  I also recommend advancing your pump timing to .039" for best power and fuel economy.

I'm looking just to do the harness mod first and see how that goes. Anyone with a golf AAZ try it out?

Yes I've done that mod to both of my AAZs.  I noticed better fuel economy more than anything.
