so if a guy wanted to run some compound turbos on his 1.6..what turbos would be good to use??
I have a K26 right now..what if I used the K26 as the bottom turbo. what would be a good top turbo??
a smaller KKK turbo like a k17???
thanks for any info or advice you guys may have.
k14, k03, gt15? something teeny tiny
Man you are pumped to build a car aren't ya?
This has been covered her lots.
To hard to keep the alum head bolted down with all that pressure.
Lets just get your car built then tackle the performance side.
I played around with my pump this weekend and that seems to be where the performance on these cars comes from.
There are small gains to be had with timing and injectors but the majority just like the Cummins comes from the pump.
There is of course porting as well for more
thanks guys...
yeah Dan I know I am bad...lol I cant help but think of all the fun mods I can do to this engine..
so what do you know about porting and port matching a 1.6td??
Port matching is as easy as the tools you have.
If you want to get serious I would send your head to Dave @ PP.
He knows what these heads need to flow.
Yet another subject
Ya know, I wonder if we were to use like a GT25 under a k14 or one of those little turbos they run on the twin turbo Mitsubishi car would work.
The GT25 wouldn't be "to Big" and the little baby turbo would spool like nothing..
i'm thinking that the variable vane turbo's would be the most promising for twin turbo setups... mainly because the transition can be quite smooth
I agree if not for the controlling them properly.
Just building a small set of twins would not only be effective (if we can do it with out lifting the head) but cool as well. I've wanted compounds for a long time.
At this elevation even a k24 is to big for anything below 3000 rpm so having a tiny one that would spool @ say 15-1800 then be out of breath by 3000 ish rpm where the larger turbo could start pushing would fit the bill.
The only other option would be as you mentioned a VNT but why use twins if you have a VNT?
Get a large one like a 27 (don't know the classes) and go with it once the controls are figured out.
