Cluster names or types
« on: August 03, 2008, 09:21:12 am »
If CE1 (Central Electric 1) clusters are for Golf and Jetta 85-90, Scirocco 82-88, Quantum 82-88 and CE2 (Central Electric 2) clusters are for later model water cooled vehicles, then what does one call the clusters with connector centered on top, which are in 1984, 83, 82, 81, 80, etc vintage vehicles?

I call those "A1" or "MK1" clusters, since that's the the body they fit.  There's only one style of electrical system in that generation of body.

CE1 and CE2 are the two styles of A2/MK2 electrical systems, and the clusters need to match.

OBDC 1 and OBDC 2 are the two styles of A3/MK3 electrical systems, and the clusters are evidently somewhat interchangeable.

Cluster Terminology cleared up
« Reply #4 on: August 04, 2008, 05:43:54 am »
Thanks. I have gained enough info to read and hopefully understand some of the entries much easier. I also learned what to buy or not to buy in the cluster area. No swapping out of wiring or remapping of wiring. Just going to get my 1.6L NA up and running and move forward. No exotic upgrades in the works.
