Question about injectors and oil

I'm going to get some injectors pop tested tomorrow. What should I ask?
It is a big rig shop who knows nothing about vw's but they will test some used injectors I bought for cheap. What psi should they fire at? Is there an acceptable variance range??


Also I just did an oil and filter change and put in some Syntec 5w50 synthetic oil that I had sitting around. It had a cf rating. Should I be ok?? Rings are well broken in by now. :shock:

For an NA they should fire at 130 bar... dunno if the factory has a variance spec... some people go +/- 5 bar, some +/- 0.5 bar !!

(1 bar = 14.7 psi)

If the shop knows GM diesels they probably have seen these injectors before... they should "pop" on and off, not dribble, and have a nice even and misty spray pattern.

My favorite oil... good for harsh winters... great for globally-warmed summers.

however the 5w50 has netted me worse mileage.  oil consumption went down considerably though.. (to virtually nil!)

100 damn degrees out there by 10am I could use a heavier oil.

I picked up 5 quarts on closeout for $1.50 a quart, i'll be curious to see how it affects my mileage :shock: I'm not losing or dripping oil now.)8 How far can I reasonably push an oil change with this stuff, and If I want to stick with syn oil after this, should I go to a 10W30?

syn 10w30 won't be good for the old motors.  it will run pretty loud  :lol:

the mileage decrease isn't that much, but it felt like i was towing something when the oil was really hot.

If you want to know how far you can push an oil change go to Blackstone Labs and request some free sample kits.  Change your oil at your normal change interval (let's say 3000 miles or 5000 kilometers, which ever you want to use) and draw off a sample according to their instructions.  Send it off to them and for $60 they will perform their Dyson Analysis, which is their standard analysis plus another test that you can read about on the link, and they will tell you the condition of your engine and oil and how long you can run the oil between changes.

When my father was driving 18-wheelers for a living he would have his oil analyzed.  He said it probably saved him tens of thousands of dollars by being able to know when to have his engine overhauled before it broke down and left him stranded some where in the Mojave desert or some other not so nice place.

The shop said I was wasting my money pop testing these injectors, since the were pitted around the nozzle. They told me that even if they spayed well that they would not seal well unless the injector surface was perfectly flat, where the nozzle came out of the injector. They said that they would possibly drip into the cylinders. So I guess the injectors I bought from someone on here are only good for cores

First: the only time I find oil for THAT price is when my neighbors leave their garages unlocked!!!!! :shock:

Second: I am going to get a lot of negatives for saying this....but, I tend to be a poor slob. I, personally, would spring for a set of heat shields and plant the injectors in my head. And, take it from there.

They might run pretty good for 10 or 15 or 20 thousand miles or kms or breadcrumbs. I generally do not live in a perfect world.
