I have done a search and read through a ton of posts. Thought maybe a sticky on what is considered max EGT runing a turbo for our little diesels? Does it make a difference on what model turbo you have? I couldn't find a definate post stating what is considered safe and what was considered "danger, danger Wil Robinson"

I guess this would have to be split for Pre turbo and Post turbo.

1. What is a safe max EGT for high speed interstate travel, if that makes sense?
2. What is max EGT but for only a second or so, like winding out the gears getting up the speed on an on ramp?
3. What is the max EGT if you want to play with fire and push your little diesel to the limit?

I just installed a Glow Shift gage, it rocks and responds quick, I was surprised at how fast it got up to 1200. Now my question is all these years not running an EGT gage was I running in the RED and didn't realize it because I was not smart enough to put an EGT gage on my diesel?

1300-1500 is pushing up into redline.
From reading, it appears that 1600 is the point where very bad things start to happen quickly.

Sustained EGT's shouldn't exceed 1250 in my opinion.A second or so you can take 1600.I wouldn't push anything I have for extended peroids at anything higher than 1350-1400.

I really do hate to admit it but I've ran mine to 1400 for an extended period, we were going up a hill with the AC on and cruise set going 75 and when we were about 2/3 up the hill I was @ 1400, watched it stay right there till we toped the hill and down she came. I watched it a bit closer the rest of the trip and it would run @ 1300 for 4-5min while going up a long incline.
Now I may have an advantage here, I am running a K26 turbo and a really LARGE font mount intercooler, 3" turbo back exhaust as well. The FMIC would drop the intake charge temp down a bit I'm guess allowing for a hotter discharge temp without causing pistons to melt.

Anyway, I wouldn't take it above 1300 for any length of time if I had a choice and for playing with friends I would prefer not to see it go past 1500 even for a couple seconds.

I was pushing it with mine, at the time I was mad a the car and was hoipng it would blow up so I could go buy a TDI. It didn't and I'm glad now looking back it would have been a bad weekend and I've had enough of them lately.
