02A transmission into mk2 tranny mount question
« on: July 22, 2008, 09:54:34 am »
If I am installing a 02A trans in my MK2 1.6td, will I be able to use the standard transmission mount, or will I need one spec'ed for a 02A?

Same mount from what I have seen, just a larger surface on top for the 02A mount.

Another reply from the vortex suggesting that I would need to swap in the trans mount bracket for the 02a plus the mount.  Anyone know if the mk3 trans mount bracket is a bolt on?

if it helps. I replaced my subframe for a mk3 one, gearbox mount was bolt on, but had to replace the engine mount for a later one.

kept the same 4T gearbox.

That is good to know, but I am not looking to go that in depth.  I was hoping it would be just a mount or a bracket.

Nope.  I am using a late 90's tdi transmission on my TD.  Next gen trans up from 020.

Here is a shot of the trans.  There is a bracket sticking off of it.  That is the stock 02A bracket.  It will attach to a trans mount.  The trans mount will attach to a bracket holding it to the subframe.  Just wondering which I needed to swap.

02A or 02J transmission into MK2, you have to use the MK3 02A support bracket,  from MK3 TDI or MK3 VR6.

Normally the 02A come from MK3, thus you dont need to change the support bracket originally bolted on the transmision.

Edit: the bracket support cost around 38$ at the dealer if you do not find a used one.

And you use the VR6 clutch too right? I found a VR6 with a bad motor near me, he's selling the complete car for $500 with an 02A in it. Think I might wanna do that..

VR6 ratio's might be pretty close though... you would want the taller gears from a 1.9TDI
