I got an old 1.6TD, need help rebuilding
« on: July 17, 2008, 01:18:56 pm »
Hi, I just acquired an old 1.6 TD originally from an audi 80. The engine has been sat outside for a while in the weather, So water more than likely has penetrated. the rocker cover and pulleys are also rusty. I was also given a turbo off the engine, however the turbo is perfect because it has been stored inside. there is no gearbox on the engine. there is no timing belt or alternator either. the bolt is missing from the crankshaft pulley so it can be removed by hand. The oil pump pulley also comes out.
I plan on rebuilding the engine to put in a caddy pickup. Has anyone got any tips as to how I should approach this rebuild, given the engines condition? Any help or tips are very much appreciated!

Until you actually tear it down to see what you really have we cant help much.

Get it on a stand and tear it apart, post up pics and go from there.
