DSE biofuel?

Anyone out there using the DSE mix? How are you making out? I have an '81 VW Rabbit 1.6. The first 5 gallons I ran through seemed to be fine with the exception of me needing to use the cold start to start it...even at outside temps of 60's and 70's. The other thing that I "think" I notice is a loss in power...not much though. So I put another 8 gallons into her and then it progressed to the motor shutting off several times on start up. Once it would stay running it would surge, then almost stall out, then surge, then almost stall out, etc. Once it warmed up the surging still continued but the time in between surges just got longer...not longer than about 20-30 seconds though. Last night I changed the air filter and the fuel filter with no improvement. So I drained as much DSE out of the tank as I could and added petro diesel and it smoothed right out. Anyone know what my problem might be? I have been told to check the micron rating of my fuel filter and make sure I have one that is about 10-15 micron. DSE filters down to 2 so I guess the thought is that fuel will pass through the fuel filter easier and not starve the motor?

It seems I'm having a deja vu moment as it seems like I have read this exact post before. DSE SUCKS! Drain your tank of the crap and put some real fuel in.. And hope you haven't ruined anything.

Sorry fellas. I'm new here so bear with me. I thought I would get some other feedback since I screwed up and put the first posting on the "non" VW forum...duh! What's so wrong with this stuff anyway? Why will it not work and what is so different about this than the bio diesel that you add methanol/lye that separates the glycerin? Or what is the diff between DSE and running 100% WVO and adding some kerosene to thin it in the winter? Is it their chemicals? The gasoline? What? School me fellas...I'm trying to understand this stuff and all I am getting is different stories that don't add up. If this stuff is so bad, how are they still in business and not taken to the cleaners in lawsuits for ruining engines?

There probably are lawsuits. There were commercials on tv for a SHORT time, then no more... Read the responses in the link from the first time you posted the question. Everything is answered there including it gelling at 60*F!
Just think about it, if it was that simple, that's what you would be buying at the pumps.

I have to agree with dinkweb. There are no hard facts on DSE. All of what's being said are assumptions/opinions people on this site and other sites (infopop,etc.).
I personally won't be using DSE because of the uncertainty. As there is no one saying, "yes, I've run DSE for 100k with no problems," there is also no one saying, "I've run DSE for 5k or 10k and my engine blew." No one knows. You guy are voicing your opinions and concerns, and guys like myself and dinkweb are thankful for that, but we're looking for facts.
When you say snake oil. It might be or it might not be. The diesel engine was designed to run on peanut oil. Maybe Rudolf Diesel cried snake oil the first time someone put petro-diesel into one of his peanut oil engines.

But there ARE people posting of problems from running it under the posted links. And the chemistry, or lack there of behind it say it is a bad thing.

I'm seeing a lot more people on those weblinks saying it does work then it doesn't (posts claiming experience only). Although I have to wonder if those claiming it does work, do they work for DSE? How do you know? I guess you really can't and your have to go with your own personal experience.
If this stuff is really bad, then why are they still in business? Is it because they're over seas and just don't care?
