Author Topic: IP bracket bolts loosening up (Read 2993 times)

Is anyone one else having issues with their IP bracket bolts coming loose? I rebuilt the engine three years ago and now had the bracket come loose enough that it effected my timing to where the car wouldn't run. I'm lucky because the one bolt fell out and was bouncing around inside my timing belt cover. I'm lucky it didn't shred my timing belt and cause other issues. Upon further investigation all the bracket bolts were loose to include the one that is in back of the IP bolted to the engine block and the one bolt on it that bolts to the timing belt side bracket fell out and was laying down on my AC compressor. I pulled them all out and cleaned up with carb cleaner and put blue lock tight on them. Hopefully this time they will stay tight.

maybe some blue loctite would help keep it where its supposed to be???

I would have to second the loctite. The torque specs for those bolts is only 18ftlbs.

You are not alone on this isssue. Missing bolts on the bracket apear to happen ofton. Missing on the pump, not so ofton but still happens. Clean those bolts, the mounting surfaces, run a tap down all the holes, a die down the bolts, smidge of loctite and away you go.

subsonic, you're talking about doing this on the bolts that mount the bracket to the engine, correct?

The ones that hold the pump to the bracket shouldn't need locktite assuming the nylocks are good, so I believe those are the ones he is talking about. Mine fell out also, but I'm not positive I tightened them in the first place. I didn't put it on mine, but every time I have the pump off, which is way too often lately, I check mine and they are tight.

Yup, sorry bout the confusion. Might make it a bit hard to set the timing if you lock those bolts :wink:

Yeah, that would make it a touch hard to set the IP timing the next time

. I'm getting ready to pull my IP for a reseal and to install the cam-plate that I got from jimfoo off of ebay and this will be my first time also :shock:

my pump bracket to block bolts came loose too,spring washer and locktite with new 12.9 cap screws :wink:

Yeah I've added split lockwashers just about everywhere.
