Water/AC problem on 86 Golf Deisel
« on: July 12, 2008, 08:36:41 pm »
This is the best forum ever.
About a month ago I bought a used deisel Golf with a lot of little problems.  I have fixed most of it thanks to reading all your posts.  I still have a couple of quandries though:
#1
I fixed the radiator fan by changing out the fan switch.  It works now when the Ac is turned on.  The AC doesn't cool so I recharged the refrigerant.  (I had already been retrofitted to R-134)  The AC still doesn't cool.  Plus whenever the AC or defroster are switched on now I get the flashing red warning light on the temperature gauge.  The gauge does not show hot.  There is plenty of coolant.   The light goes out when you switch the AC off or over too heat.
Anyone have any ideas?
Thanks,
PW

is the a/c clutch kicking on?  could be the low pressure cutoff for the a/c system.  make sure they have contact...  its located at the high pressure service port on the right side (drivers side) of the top of the radiator.  there should be two switches coming out of that a/c line.  one is for temp and one is for pressure.  the temp switch kicks the fan to high speed when it reaches a certain temp.  the low pressure turns off the a/c when there isn't enough pressure in the system.  this saves your compressor
