Injector Servicing Kit

I'm drooling over this
kit over at MercedesSource.com. For $258 I'm thinking it might be worth it since it includes a shim kit to set break pressure and the pressure gauge is a 0-3000psi. If I were to get it I might replace the gauge with one with a larger face and a mirror strip so you can read the gauge more accurately.

I'm pretty sure that the injectors were the same size as everyone is talking about using Merc 300d nozzles in our injectors. I've asked the question on the mercedessource.com website on whether or not these shims will fit our injectors and will let everyone know what I find out.

Well I did some digging because I knew someone had posted the O.D. of the single spring shims.
In the group buy thread Duane wrote
the single spring shim i have some in my collection now and the O.D. is 11.44 to 11.42mm and the center hole I.D. is from 3.02mm to 5.05mm depending on who made the shim i guess as long as there is a hole in the center it will work!
The merc shop says the O.D. of the shim is approx 11.5mm
I recon that would be real close to identical to what is needed.

I just got an email reply from Kaia at mercedesservice.com and she stated that "The OD on all of our shims is 11.5 mm" and "the ID varies from shim to shim". That information correlates with Possum79's info from blkboostedtruck. One of the techs at H&H Diesel Service in Auburn, WA also confirmed that the shim size is the same between the Mercedes and VW IDI injectors. This is great news, now we have a readily accessible supply of shims so we can rebuild our own injectors and set the break pressures.

this is a pretty sweet kit... but you'd have to do about 12 injectors to make the kit worthwhile. but even just being able to test spray patterns is pretty sweet!

I'm thinking about getting it so I can do my own injectors and know what kind of job went in to them. I would also like to test Merc vs OEM VW vs GTD nozzles at different pressures to see what nozzle and pressure will give us the best spray pattern. I was also thinking of using my Nikon DSLR and getting pictures of the different spray patterns to post for others to see. Besides, if I get this kit I don't have to run down all of the different stuff that's in the kit separately. I'm real big on saving myself time and aggravation.

well guys i'll step in and tell you what i think!
looks to be a nice starter kit! those are the right shims and will work!
MB&VW are the same except late model dual stage injectors 1.9
says her you do have to make your own adapter for your injectors
when VW put thier shims in they have 1of the right size because everyone i measured came in .001 of whatever size that calibrated it to exact! so they must of had a board loaded with 1000's of sizes? you can use more than i shim when calibrating! but as small as that set is you may only get 1to 2 sets shimmed ? no biggie as you know i know where to get shims!
and having a bigger selection like i have is easier IMHO!
well one other thing is the gage! i hear bigger is better! thats what inj. repair shops say! even tho i have a professional poptester! it is an older style with a smaller gage! i wish it was much bigger or had something that marked it's hight that it reaches!
but i give it a thumbs up for creativity! i have double that invested in mine!
but if that was around i would of bought that instead!
so somebody get it and report on how it works?

I told a friend about it and we are thinking of buying one together. Between us we have several diesels.

Excellent plan... almost a no-brainer split amongst friends... and if you're like me once word spreads that you have a pop-tester you'll...er... make *new* friends all of a sudden. ;-)
