So I've been trying to read about how exactly the cold start valve works. Evidently it advances the timing and does some other voo doo to the fuel delivery but what is it and how does it work?
I'm wondering because my car is timed with a pump lift of 1.00 mm (brand new pump and new injectors) but there is a fair amount of emission given off at idle and maybe there is a malfunction with the cold start. The emission isn't the soot black variety nor is it the classic white unburned fuel smoke resulting from an ill-timed pump but rather somewhere between the two.
It is just a cam that pushes in on the timing plunger, causing the timing to advance slightly, and also give a little more throttle. Nothing voodoo. As long as the little serrations aren't stripped on the shaft or hole in the linkage, it can't not work. If it turns, it works.
