hey i"ve got a 92 td jetta with a t3 and i am looking for a downpipe for it.
I have heard that i will get minimum gains from swapping out the stock DP
becuse no matter what pipe i get it will have to have a constriction in it so the turbo won't stall..ie a 2.5 in. pipe must neck down to 2in. or less before opening into my 2.5" exhaust therefore making anything larger than a 2" exhaust unnecessary. is this correct? would a 3" dp necked down to 2.5" work.
i currently am running a rebuilt 1.6td with metal HG, and a giles super pump, but i need more flow. I also just saw a 2.25" td DP for mk1's on the techtonics tuning website(part#251.224)...would that work with my MK2?
BTW giles you rule; this pump is the ***!!!! ANYONE who is thinking of getting one, DEFINITELY do it!
why would you want any kind of restriction after the turbo??
I use a 2.25" Stainless Downpipe from Techtonics Tuning on my 1.6 TD in a Mk1 Jetta. Works very well and fits perfectly. I think it'll work in the Mk2 also.
Call them, they're very helpful, very good service and lightning fast shipping.
Fisher, are you still running the stock exhaust elbow off of the turbo or does your downpipe bolt directly to the turbo?
Greg
The Down Pipe bolts directly to the Turbo. Complete TT Exhaust from the Turbo to the Rear, small Resonator with no Muffler.
Exhaust system comes with a Muffler but I had them make a Pipe to replace it. Nice setup.
What did that run Fisher? Do you have the part numbers or was it a one off deal?
I think it was about $480 complete. Can't remember the part number for the Cat Back system but they'll know when you talk to them.
SS 2.25" Down Pipe, and 2.25" Cat Back system, bolted right up. Parts off the shelf, next day delivery.
