how to tear apart a VDO gauge
« on: July 05, 2008, 08:43:17 pm »
Anyone know how to open a VDO gauge.  Mine has 4 screws on the back but that dosn't seem to do anything.  It looks like I'll have to uncrimp around the face.  Does anyone have any pointers?  Thanks.

they probably have those plastic clips.  something like that is meant to be assembled, and not disassembled.

We use VDO gauges on our trucks at work, and the only way to get them apart is to remove the metal ring holding the glass to the face of the gauge.  That will get it apart - you're on your own as far as getting them back together.   Not a serviceable item.

The gauge specialist used to be able to get new uncrimped front VDO escutcheons and a tool for crimping them on. VDO has sold several time since then, but check around with a good speedometer/instrument shop.
