Just arrived back home in Pakistan, car started on first attempt - yay, but I couldnt get Reverse, so I checked everything and my problem is the bush in the shift box that wraps around the shift rod is decayed so bad it disintegrated, now ive got 2 inches play either side
As I cant find the bush here, any ideas, OEM, aircooled bits n bobs, teflon or something that works when you cant find the original, the bush looks like the orange bush in the shift rod tower mounted on the steering column.
Ive aligned the rod to have R1234 but I really need 5th on highway runs
I think your problem is based on those plastic connectors and if that is gone or broken you will not be able to select any gears side to side.....
Put some pics up of the area and you could use a Bentley because it will save you with everything
regardless of what bushing you decide to use, its still a pain to change it.
i recently did that on my mk2 golf and it is nearly impossible to get the shifter box out of the car without having the exhaust clear out of the way.
good luck.
The pieces on the trans are alright, its just the bush in the shiftbox,
I know its a pain to get the shiftbox out - but you have to do it to get it done
