Final consensus on timing advance mod ?

What is everyone final outcome to the timing advance piston cover mod?
Or machining the piston itself.

I searched past posts and cant find anyone who has responded back after doing it.

I was looking at a pump I have apart and if you take the cold start cover off and replace it with a cover from the other side and did the mod to it you could have much more advance. If that makes sence.

81 caddy 1.6 td, 2.5" turbo back, snow performance water/meth injection, and all the other usual mods.

black smokin diesel,

any change in your mileage? any more smoke?

Sorry about the late response  Nope, absolutely no change in mileage and smoke.

Zero, Zilch, Nada.

It appears to be a worthless "mod".

Probably beneficial for an M-TDI pump though, as they can use more advance.

I'm right here as well.

I don't doubt that it does something in the upper RPM range but as far as "feel" theres nada.

I didn't notice any MPG difference of mileage.

hi,

i am running a 10mm plunger on a 1,9TD "AAZ" with 1,9L 130HP PD-TDI gearbox.

the timing-advance-spring ist changed to a softer one from a galloper/pajero (thats also, where the plunger came from)

milage dropped from about 6,5l/100km to 5l/100km. (don't know what that is in MPG ;) )

but 5l/100km is 20km/l..and thats quite good i think

greets, michael

lowering your cruising rpm's is definitey a good thing  8)  the only problem being, and some might argue, is the low rpm deposits left in the engine.  taking it for a nice 'run' every once in a while should cure it though
