Wondering if there's such a thing as a 1.9 ECO diesel? I just bought a 93 Passat 1.9 TD, and the IP has the lower part of the LDA, but the top is capped off with a flat plate, and no line to the intake manifold. It's obviously factory, not a hack.

That would be the ECO AAZ... I believe only on early Passats. Got one of those pumps myself by mistake.... evidently none of the LDA guts are there under the cap.

The non LDA (flat top) pump is the stock pump that came on my 92 Passat TD. It also has the EGR, so that means it's an ECO diesel. I thought that all the B3 diesel Passats in Canada were equipped this way.

I like my new LDA "Giles" pump, by the way. A lot.

This seems to be the case. I just looked at another 93 Passat for sale, and it was an ECO too.

My AAZ I believe to be an ECO - it has gas recirc and the tiny turbo but the pump has a LDA. the boost pin has a flat profile and there is no preload screw on the top of the LDA.

Is it an ECO? has it got the 9mm head?

Not all passats had EGRs, most did though.

I just got a pump like this. It has a vacuum advance as well. Does anyone know if it has an 8 or 9mm plunger?

You could check it from pump number. 0 460 494 xxx is 9mm and 0 460 484 xxx is 8mm.

Well the good new is that my pump has a 9mm plunger but when I opened the LDA plate there is nothing there. I will have to replace the whole LDA to get the boost pin in there. Does anyone know what the vacuum advance connects to (on the Passat TD)?

Its purpose is to up the idle slightly when the A/C is on... a solenoid valve driven by the Fan Control Module (iirc) applies vacuum from a tee off the vacuum pump. The solenoid came disconnected on mine, but I traced the schematic one day and I believe it goes back to the FCM.

Idle... it's pulling on a throttle linkage.

On the 1.6 cars that are so equipped this same linkage is tugged by the cold start handle at the second notch while a different linkage advances the timing on notch 1 and 2.
