Flywheels

I was installing a flywheel with a 1Z engine and noticed that it is very heavy.  Is this really necessary (to be so heavy)?  Is there any advantage to lightweight flywheels?

One theory with the 1Z or AHU and lighter flywheel, you will notice more part throttle shudder, noticable even more with performance mods like more fuel, etc.  might be able to tune it out with the proper fuel program.  Think StealthTDI has the most documentation about it over on TDIclub

The flywheel on my motor weighs 8lbs. The motor revs faster. I don't see a down side after 20K miles. I think it cost me about $130.00
