So this 92 Golf I have, it's got a Sunpro 2 inch temperature gauge installed by the previous owner. He said the gauge in the dash wasn't working right. The dash gauge will go up to about 3/4's within a minute or less after starting, even on a total cold start. The Sunpro gauge shows normal 70 mph cruising temperature right about 190 Fahrenheit with a few degrees variation lower or higher. Climbing a hill, it'll rise. Usually about 200 Fahrenheit, I did see it hit 210 F on the Sunpro going up a long hill under WOT trying to maintain 70 mph. The temp warning light started to flash once the gauge hit 210 F, but the gauge never rose any higher than that and it came back down once I reached the top of that hill. Does that sound normal? Cooling systems freak me out a bit, driving my old Dodge Spirit and staring at the temp gauge, watching it to make sure it doesn't get too hot, overheat and rip the headgasket (which finally did happen) has made me almost scared to see coolant temperatures rise and fall like they do in my Golf.
