Basic MF rebuild cost

If anyone has experience with a basic rebuild, what is the cost for a basic DIY rebuild, minus a Giles pump :?:

I am talking about all new seals and rubber, new HG with headstuds, re-paint, new clutch, etc. General freshen up, plus attending to any tolerances that need attention. Bottom end and pistons, valves shouldnt be necessary. Cheers

Adds up quick.  Pistons are about 300.  You will need new con rod and main bearing bolts.  New con rod and main bearings,  You will need to have them installed and have the rods resized. Magnafluxing would be good. before you get started.  Crank journals need to be done, either polished and checked for spec, or ground.  New oil pump, new water pump.  Rebuild injectors-nozzles and pop testing.  Stripping block, hot tanking, magnaflux, bore and hone. new head bolts or studs, new HG set, new lower end gasket set. Having head checked, seats recut, valves lapped, valve stem seals, lifters or shims etc.  IM shaft bearings, couple helicoils, all new belts and fluids, flywheeel turned. Crank shaft bolt, rubber injector fuel line, fuel filter, glow plugs, clamps, bolts, nuts etc.  Wire wheels for cleaning parts, brake clean, gasket material, etc.
Turbo need attention? 150-400 bucks.   IP leaking? reseal?
It adds up fast.  I would say anywhere from $1000 up to $3000

All true. I am thinking the best money I could spend would be to have a solid, reputable diesel (preferably VW style) mechanic tackle it and do it right. I have decided once and for all to forget about a newer TDI, and make mine new.

Anyone know of a top notch VW diesel shop in the Pacific Northwest, in Canada? I'm going to start looking into this now.

Thanks
