Smoke at high speed
« on: June 28, 2008, 11:56:11 pm »
Hi Folks,

I have noticed that my Jetta produces some smoke at over 120kmph. Today I was doing 135 for a short while and I could see some smoke behind me - It was dark, but I could see it in the headlights of the guy behind me & he wasn't THAT close.

Is this normal for a 94 TD AAZ?

All stock, timing set to .93

Thanks!

my 1990 td does the same thing except i think a lot more excessively than yours does. IT used to do 170 no prob but at like you said 130 the smoke just billows. I think , this is just a thought, the timing of the pump is too advanced. Has it ever beem taken off? I took mine off and had to adjust it to settle the idle down after i fiddled with the pump and i fear it's ludacrisly advanced now
If you find out let me know. I know aaz is different than mine but ... you never know?
