on a scale of 1 to 10 how difficult is the govenor modification 1 being easy 10 being hard and how long should it take sombody with a pretty savvy mechanical knowlege
ok cool and how long should it take? does the pump have to be out of the car?
Pump can be in the car, but you better be sure no dirt can get in it from ANYTHING, wind, hood, hoses or cables. Be sure to mark the position of the throttle shaft before you begin!!!
ok onto the timeframe how long?
It all depends on how strong your fingers are or how many spring compressing devices you own. It should take 10 minutes to clean the pump. Some more time to mark the shaft on the plate...not long just take pictures in case you run into problems and it takes longer than a day to get it back together. Maybe 30 minutes to get the top of the pump bolted back on, so I think I did mine in less than 4 hours...It took me over an hour to try to get the e clip off the shaft and then get it back on with my fingers raw, and then to get the return spring wound back up.
Knowing what I know now I could do it in less than an hour.
Brake cleaner and CLEAN shop towels are your friend.
do u need to buy new seals when u do this?
Nope not if it's not leaking now.
If they are available then sure replace the large seal that's in the grove on the top part of the pump but besides that just do it!!
do u need to buy new seals when u do this?
After spraying my pump thoroughly with brake cleaner, a new cold start seal(1 month old) that I didn't replace started leaking. YMMV
