I got my pump back together and put in the car. It is leaking at the cold start on the bottom. I didn't replace the o-ring, but it was replace about a month or so ago, so I think the brake cleaner I cleaned the pump with must have softened the seal. So the moral of the story is replace all the seals any time you use cleaner on the pump, whether they need it or not. :evil: Off to pull it, AGAIN...

Don't feel to bad, I too have a leaking cold start cable seal....It's pissing my $1.45per L diesel all over my head gasket and I think its beginning to eat that out too...

today jimfoo and I are re-sealing pumps...anyone else?

Brake fluid is very corrosive, I used engine degreeser and I guess it ate the seal, be careful what you use people

Yea, my dad is bad for using break cleaner on everything. I personally hate the stuff. Just by the way it smells you can tell it's some harsh stuff!

in my opinion brake fluid is the worst *** in the world! Maybe im a white sheep...who knows!

I take it youve made contact with paint and brakefluid before....tsssss

I bought 1100 wheels for my old car and ruined them the first day because I didnt know the corrosive behaviour of the stuff

never use you fluid to clean anything....dont let anyone tell you its a good idea. Ive seen it de oxidize metal like you wouldnt beleave!

i'm the blacksheep. I love brake cleaner! never had any probs with it at all. Well that's not true. I was cleaning crap off an engine with a plastic drain pan underneath. Left the residue in the pan overnight, and the next day the pan's floor was all warped. Other than that, I haven't had any problems at all.

Whenever I clean anything now I just use rubbing alcohol in a spray bottle. Works good, evaporates quickly like brake cleaner and I haven't noticed any damage from it so far.

I love brake cleaner. I use to use carb cleaner and found quickly that stuff is harsh and leaves oil everywhere. Brake cleaner dries quickly and leaves no residue.

But, I quickly learned only keep it on metal, never let it contact paint / rubber /plastic.

well... brake fluid has one use... mixed with diesel and some dextronII: cleaning the vanes of a stuck VNT ... :wink:
