Seems like there has been a few dropped precups in these aaz heads. Dave and you, both out of new heads. Jimfoo lost one I think. Is it the same one on all heads? Why do you think the merc nozzles are causing the damage? Putting out to much fuel? If that is the case, how come we are not seeing dropped cups from engines running Giles pumps that are turned up?

My loose one on the first head was #4. Second head was #3. Then I converted to M-TDI. :twisted:

Also, the first head was stock VW, second from EC Styling. Heat was probably a big factor in my cases.

Because they don't keep their foot in it long enough, there really aren't too many places where you can, you either need a big heavy vehicle for the IDI to push around, or a LONG and STEEP hill to really overheat the precup.

Too much fuel has to be defined, LOTS of fuel for 10 seconds does not matter, but even stock fuel levels at WOT for 4 minutes is enough to drop the precup, that happened to my TD at least, 3 of 4 precups were either loose or fell out. My engine was run hard and it has a %75 precup failure rate, I don't think that is a coincidence.

I don't think heating the head with a torch is a good idea. You're removing any strength the aluminum had tempered into it and it is likely to warp once brought up to operating temps

I would think the dealer should have bolts. 1Z and AHU at least should be the same. Torque wrench at any auto parts store.

Well thanks for all the advice and help, but I decided it was WAY too much for me to fix. If I had more tools and somebody to tell me what to do I might have done it, but being that I'm not even sure how to re set the timing I've decided to take it as a loss and head back home. I pulled some of the salvageable parts, and hopefully they'll go into someone's project.

As to why the precup dropped, I'm really not sure. My brother was sure it was the nozzles, but it could have been just waiting to happen before that.

Sure was an expensive prechamber.......

What is the procedure for removing the prechamber inserts?

Procedure for removing them is stick a punch or screwdriver in through the injector hole and tap out with a hammer.
