Which vw radiator for a 1.9 TD?
« on: June 16, 2008, 09:48:20 pm »
I'm getting all of the parts together for a conversion 1.9 TD into a 1991 Tracker. I've read that a 26" crossflow vw rad with dual pulling fans is a good choice for the 1.9 TD conversion.

Question......which vw's came with 26" rads? I can't find the info anywhere on the net.

I have a line on a 1996 Jetta 1.8 gas rad......any idea if this is what I'm looking for? This one has two fans, but I don't know if they are pull-fans or pushers.

Thanks.

Hi mate, Ive recently finished a 1.9td conversion on my vitara (uk sidekick, tracker, escudo) I used a 22" crossflow rad but found it to be too small! so i would say go with the 27" but its going to be a pain to fit! theres not much room in there for it!!! As far as i know they can be found in all quantums and td rabbits, and all vw fans are pullers! If you need any help just mail me!
PS what kit are you using?

Mud, Thanks for the reply.

Yes, which rad to choose....the tracker is liftted, and thus has 3" of height to play with under the hood, with aprox 18" of height if I choose a "full width" rad.

As far as width goes, the tracker ain't that wide in there for the rad. I could just squeeze in a rad that is 27" wide overall.

I too want to go with dual pulling fans.

The one in my mk2 NA golf is 26 1/2 core length. The overall length including the hose and it's bend (it exits on the side) is 34" It isn't cross flow though.
