howdy,
Today a friend asked me to look at his new rebuilt 6 cyl perkins 354
the shop had it running for 10 hrs or so they say
he installed it in his fish boat
after 10 minutes of running he checked the oil - full of mouse milk
it had water in the oil- and had no oil pressure for the first 5 minutes then went to 30 psi.
we changed the oil and filter and we by passed the oil cooler to see if the water was getting there
I pulled the tube off the oil pressure gauge to see if the oil was getting there
when we started the motor we never got any oil
so I pulled the fitting off the block and tried again- nada
so I pulled the oil filter and it was empty it sits sideways so we didn't fill it

I'm thinking it might be missing the oil pressure relief valve
so my question is where would Mr. Perkins hide that pressure relief valve
some where near the pump no doubt but would you happen to know where?

thanks
hank

Sorry I didn't see this sooner!!
I'm going to have to guess, but I'd say the pressure relief is right in the oil pump. You'll have to pull the pan to get to the pump. As for the water in teh oil, an oil cooler is a good place to start. The engine is a dry sleeve engine, not wet sleeves so at least you don't have to worry about bad O-rings on teh bottom of a sleeve.......
Haven't had mine apart since 1998 when I put it in the truck. MIne is the original 354, no turbo, no cooler. I'd be chasing the shop that did the work................
