VNT's roughly equivalent to what?

I'm curious about VNT's... i just bought a refurbished VNT 15 taken off a mk4 golf which met its demise in a traffic accident about a month after it had the turbo refurbished and tempted to hammer it onto my AAZ instead of the K03 003 it currently has on.
Mod wise it has a rover 220 boost/aneroid pin (Many Thanks Bert)
Golf mk2 SB intercooler
1/2 tun of the diesel screw
is the VNT 15 the equivalent of the K03 but spools faster?
or should i see if i can get a VNT 25?
The Golf they will be used on is used as a daily runner and due to diesel being expensive here i will not increase fuelling anymore than it already is with existing set-up.

my other turbo option is a water-cooled and modded (360 bearing and lowdrag shaft bearings) K14 which on my friend's aaz was better than the K03 for top end power... but i am hoping that someone tells me that a VNT 15 is better than the K14

I don't have any personal experience with the VNT but from what I've read if you can figure out how to control the VNT part it will rock over a k14.

I think it is somewhat close to having a K14 and K24 compound set-up.

The vnt 15 flows roughly the same air as the k14 and the smallervnt 17's flow similar to the t3/k24.The k03 does flow less than the vnt 15.
If you want simplicity and pretty quick spool up then I would stick with the k03.If you want a bit of performance then go with the k14 which In my opinion still spools pretty good.
I'm currently swaping out my vnt 15 on my Jetta currently at 18psi for the T3 (1.6TD) to give my engine a more air above 3000 rpm.The vnt 15 is mint for torque down low but on a modified TDI it only slips the clutch and is very boring to drive just using the torque.I'll gladly sacrifice gobs of torque for a much wider powerband with using the T3.

just an overview of driving conditions.....

No highways and mostly urban and the long stretches of road we have you can stay at 80 mph for 5 minutes... and then its another city/built up area so hence having my doubts regarding a really big turbo
(although i do have a nice t-3 i took off a siera cossworth sitting there in case i ever decide to go overland to the uk...)
The K14 i have is the watercooled vatiant (SB) which i got complete with the manifold off a 1.6 and am being told that they should match the bolt pattern on the AAZ head... so that would be the easyer option
The VNT 15 has no manifold and no actuator although i was thinking that from the way my dad's one is assembled, the vnt seems to be controlled by having a boost line coming from the intake manifold going to the actuator... although i think looks may be deceptive and not sure if there's some regulator in between them...

I'm going to be buying a k14 soon. I had a vnt15, installed it, it poured oil out the exhaust, I got mad, and took it off. :evil:

these turbos are too confusing lol and not an easy thing to play around and replace for someone who just started working full time :/ i drove my friend's Seat Ibiza witn an AAZ which came factory fitted with a T3 and to which he added a 1.6 td booost pin... turbo kicks on too late for my taste so T3 or equivalent is out of the question...

if a T3 is out of the question... are these the options i have in the order of smaller to bigger?
- K03-003 - currently on
- k14 - got a refurbished one
- VNT 15 - bought one last week
- T2 (i think or T15) watercooled Garret found on a late RA 1.6 off a passat...

Is a K04 such as the one prothe sells smaller or bigger than a t-3? if its in between or a K14 equivalent i'd be tempted considering its new and not too expensive all considering.

its not controlled by boost, it has a 3-way valve under computer control, so it can deliver any pressure or vacuum to the canister that move the vanes.
VNT turbos don't "kick in" they are controlled in a different fashion but I can't explain, wait for an expert

You can do it that way, but there are better non-electrical ways to do it. Look for posts by me, Tintin and Libbybapa on controlling them with a cable, springs and a boost actuator. It isn't that hard to do and is better than just a boost actuator alone.

Turbine is a little bigger than K24/T3. IŽd like to know what size is compressor.
