Building an AAZ
« on: June 13, 2008, 02:08:25 am »
Hi guys, im new on here. It was recommended by a friend who is running a pretty impressive diesel. I myself have a B3 Passat that seems to be using oil and water, so i feel this could be a great excuse for a diesel conversion.

With engine prices not being very good (not the ones i find anyway) i would like to build one up to my own spec. So basiacally, my question to you all........

What various parts do i need, that i can pick up over time?

Head - been told i can use any 1.9D head?
Pistons - AAZ ones?
Bottom end - AAZ or 1Z? or other?
Crank - AAZ machined to take a 1Z pulley, or full 1Z set up?
Turbo - Any?
Pump - AAZ one for tuneability?

I dont know if i have missed anything, or even understood it fully? Sorry for the long long first post, but i am desperate to get this ball rolling and smoke about for the rest of the summer  8)

Cheers in advance, Tom  :D

1-yes
2-yes
3-yes including AHU and I think ALH & PD
4-yes and AHU. Probably easier to get a 1Z or ALH
5-any, but a mechanically controlled VNT rules!
6-yes, although a bigger head if you want more power. A 1.6 will work if you have a 1.6 bracket, but I think the 1.9 will work better.
7-AAZ injectors and AAZ injector lines?

nice one. Thanks for the tips.

Just got to try and source the parts now, although it seems everyone is on to ebay these days, so its not often you get a bargain  :(
