Intalled my K24 and.......

well i have a AAZ with a K03 on it and i got a K24 from the junk yard to swap out! wow when you have them side by side K03 is so tiny K24 is way bigger, anyways i got it all done (except from DP back so she was alittle loud!) and i went around the block to test it out and could see smoke just figure with that added boost i was getting more fuel, the more and more i kept driving the more and more the road behind me became clouded so much i couldnt see anyhting behind me anymore like it was pouring blue smoke!
pulled back in my driveway and there oil all in the end of the turbo like full of oil i didnt have a tight seal on the elbow bend going to my intake as i need a bigger one so i kinda jimmy riged it and there was oil everywhere!!

any comments?? there is "no" shaft play once so ever thats what i dont get! like very very minimul up and down and like none side to side so i thouht i had a good one!! no leaks from the oil feed and none from the oil drain.......WHATS GOING ON!!!

How's the drain on it? It isn't so coked up inside that it can't drain is it? Or maybe a bad seal. You're luckily it didn't run away like mine did.

no not all kinked up just hacked each end so its jsut the metal part then joined them with a 3 inch peice of hydrolic line so i should be fine

if i seal is gone with is still feel ok like no shaft play and such

so frustating after 6 hours of work and stupid thing doesnt work right!
ha i guess you can just laugh about it
but lemmi know if with a seal gone there can still be no shaft play?

Jeez, your pritty brave putting a junk yard turbo on with out taking it appart to see whats in there.  These gosh darn things spin @ over 100K.  If there is any crap in the center section, you have a little machine shop in there.

Theres a K24 rebuild thread on here somewhere.  Might be a good Idea to take it appart and check it out.

Both ends are sealed with piston ring seals, the hot side seals could be all coked up.  If your carfull taking it appart, you can clean it up and reuse all the stuff (except the turbine housing bolts).

Spray the big O-ring that seals the compressore side with silicone spray, when taking it appart, and putting it togather.  I've re-used them and they seal fine.

Don't even put a wrench on any of the turbine housing bolts with out heating them up red hot first with a trusty gas axe. 5hit can them and get new ones at the hardware store.

If the journal bearings are still ok, leave them alone and do the rest.  I have used journal, and thrust bearings that are OK and brand new snap rings if yours are scrooched.  You pay the postage and they're yours.

i just talked with a guy "cherry turbos" i dont know if anyone knows or heard of him but he rebuilds turbo and i spoke with him about my problem and he said the only way that it would leak that much is if there was a substatial amount of shaft play and theres like none on the one i got so he asked about the oil drian and i used the same size metal turbo from the K03 just joined the 2 with a 3 inch peice of tubing anyways he stoped me and told me there my problem right there the K24 drains way more oil then the K03 the pasages in the bearing are way bigger and alot more oil is drained so he said its like a funnle it will fill then if not enough is draining and more is being added it can go anywhere but by the seal and he siad just to make the line bigger and bobs your uncle. i asked him if there was any damage due to oil pushing by the seals and said none once so ever! just open up that drain line and should be fine......so a big Relief on my part and it does make sence as it didnt smoke for the first 4-5 min of drving it and after that if just got worse and worse so the oil backed up adn had no where to go!!! so today i will open up the line and should be good to go!!
i really didnt want to rip it off......im glad there are still good guys out there as he could have said yup seals are shot ill rebuild if for you 500 later!
i didnt think there was anything wrong as shaft spun nice and there was no play up or down and side was none felt brand new to be aunest!!!!

well i opened up the oil return line alittle more and seems to be working as i have been driving it around and havnt been using an oil.....i start my 200'ks/day for the next week of work for my 3 days stretch so this will really tell!

also i used a hydrolic line as my oil return its good for 250PSI which i know there is no pressure anyways but im hoping the heat from the mani wont melt it it only has to last 800'ks  untill i change it oil to braded cable...
a guy told me that i should just leave  the line as it can withstand the heat any comments about that??

ALSO WHAT SHOULD MY EGT READING ME FOR A MAX LEVEL.... ITS A AAZ WITH THE K24 ON IT WITH ABOUT 4PSI (SMALL BOOST LEAK AS NEED TO GET CORRECT TURBO TO INTAKE MANI BOOT)
THATS WHY IT ONLY HIT 4 PSI RIGHT NOW

only 4 psi? hmm that turbo is barely breaking a sweat  :lol: but the pumping losses are probably not good for the motor.  turbo is pumping out the same amount of air, but losing a lot... and the exhaust is getting the same flow... so what happens is the egt's get higher because not as much air to cool the egts

I HAVE A EGT GAUGE AND WHEN ON HIGHWAY JUST CRUSIN I SEE LIKE 8-900f  DOING 110KM/H
