throttle cable..
« on: June 09, 2008, 10:22:32 am »
ok.. i went to change the pin in my car, and my mate thought you had to undo the throttle cable, anyways, by the time i got back from having a piss, he'd pulled it off. Now we/he can't get it back together properly.

We got it back together finally, took it for a blast, and i'm not getting full throttle, looking into it I believe its because there isn't enough tension on the spring, how ever im really not sure.

I cant find any tech diagrams or anything, could someone post some pictures of theres up, or how its meant to go back together..

asap would be great, as my car aint working now :(

Are you talking about the spring setup or the cable itself?

Is the "black lip"  concave shaped?do you have two springs or just one?

the small cup preloads the bottom end of the spring, allowing you to twist to match up the idle hash mark on the throttle lever w/the one on the shaft itself.hope this helps a little. i know i had trouble when i attempted this.

I did the governor mod on my 84 rabbit and ran into this. It was an NA but same deal in the pictures here. I don't know if I did it correctly but I had the benefit of knowing where it was (pictures) when I took it off. I put the line on the shaft about exactly in the middle of all the lines on the lever... if it were a clock 12 and 6, mine was just slightly to the right of 12 but pretty dead nuts on 6.
I put it on, barely tightened the nut enough so it wouldn't move, pushed the lip of the spring with a screw driver until I could grab it with needle nose pliers and pulled some more. My black piece didn't have a lip on it...might have broken? It is on there now hope it helps for your project.

theres a stop in the body of the pump, thats where the bottom end of the spring tensions.the concave cup takes the top end of the spring.while rotating you should be able to preload the spring. You have to preload untill you come around and line up the hash marks  on the throttle shaft and lever. It takes a little patience and muscle.when theyre lined up then start your nut and washer on the shaft.

i dunno if ive fitted it right, but its on.. but i seem to be only getting 1/4" throttle?? its really slow, turbo dont spall up.. maybe there isnt enough tension in the spring??
