Man, there is this 84 or 85 sitting along a nearby road out here that is for sale. I always wanted one of those...for some reason. But, parts (taillights,etc) just don't even exist in this part of the world. There were very few of these around here even BACK THEN!
Would converting one of these be any different than any other Golf, Jetta, whatever....gas to diesel conversion?
Did they have steel gas tanks?

Wow...salvage yards out here are way "hi-tech." What do I mean??? Gone are the wonderful old days where you could even get into the yard (stopped all of that like 15 years ago). The recycling of steel in my area is just unbelieveable. All of the Golfs and Jettas are GONE!!!
They are smashing seemingly everything over about 3 model years old. Our local steel recyclers have these huge mountains of everything remotely metallic.
I have only been able to continue driving these VW's because I snagged up about 7 wrecks/abandons several years ago. But, my "stash" is evaporating as well.
Yes, I used to go out to the yards and score a whole trunkload of VW parts for $15. But now, when I say that, young people snicker and call me "Gramps" and roll their eyes!

You need to hand around the vortex Scirocco forum to realize that there are still a bunch of these things around, and in private hands rather than wreckers. You can get about anything you need, with some patience. Also, rust country with Kraut all over the place (read Wisconsin) are full of VWs that contain most of their parts, but no useable body pannels.
As for the swap: an A1 is an A1. Straightforward swap if there ever was one.

Plenty of parts for these cars are still around. Plus, VW Restoration parts division (in Europe anyway) is starting to re-make parts so eventually the price should be reasonable on hard-to get items.

I helped bolt together the supercharger bracket on the black one in the 1st "O" bottom right.
So how's this coming along? Im very interested to see the pics of what your working on...

Would that be Mr. Lee? He's a cool guy but I didn't even get a chance to really look at his car much this year, let alone talk to him. His car is pretty badass though, you can hear the supercharger about a mile away.
