EGT QUESTION
«

i keep reading about the importance of an EGT gauge at what point when u adjust your boost does it run hotter......
i got one all ready for my K24 swap but have been running about 14PSI and mid way for steepness on the 1.6TD pin with the stock K03
i havnt touched fuel screw or anyhing else. with these small mods would i be running to hot?? i only have alittle black smoke on heavey acceleration.
maybe someone can tell me weather just doing these few things i shouldnt have to worry bout it.
some insite from the experts would be great!
thanks

Do you have still have the stock exhauste system?
If so, your probably all ready stepping into melt down land under full load.

edit: forgot to mention 2 1/2" downpipe, so not completely stock exhaust
My EGT gets up to about 1250 with the following:
T3 at 10psi
1/4 turn of the fuel screw
steepest part of the pin, half turn of the gear under the pin
stock exhaust
some smoke, not a thick cloud
If I remember right, before I touched the fuel screw, it was around 900-1000 deg.

so in reality i should be fine as i havnt touched the fuel screw and only about half way on the pin
turbo running at 16 peak PSI K03 so small turbo, and i do have a 2.5 inch exhaaust from Cat back still stock downpipe though
so i shouldnt be concerned am i right..... other than the 1.6L pin and alittle more boost turbo so small so not to much PSI for motor dont really care about the turbo as i got another one ready tyo go on
i just worry about the motor as it was just rebuilt 10 000k ago
worry or not worrry
any comment would be great!

You are probably fine, but for reference, should get an EGT gauge.

I don't know the limit, but I've run 18-20 psi with no problems, although I have head studs, not bolts. But just increasing boost will do nothing for power unless you increase fuel as well. In fact increasing boost by itself will probably slightly decrease power if you don't need it.
