ive just purchaced a mk3 golf with a 1Z. i want to build a 230bhp m-tdi corrado.
hears the plan, pretty simple
please tell me if im on a different planet.
basicly
AAZ pump with 1Z camplate pump piston ect
VNT20 turbo sitting at about 30-35 psi with sum home made boost control
is this possible? will i see that sort of power? will i need studs? i was running my aaz at around 45psi with standard bolts and had no trouble.
how do knock sensors work?
sorry i know im jumping straight in, but im realy excited

basically.. no
aaz pump has a thin shaft, can't support the bigger head you need for that power (12mm)
then you need BIG injectors (0.260 at least)
custom machined pistons, rods...
the drive belt on that engine will last 10k Km
if you really must have all that power why not start with a 150bhp PD unit?
it can support that power level with chiptuning and a new turbo.
or lower your expectations a bit, VWM got 190bhp from the race tdi, but thats a race engine, not designed to last.

you really dont need that much power to really enjoy the TDI's. I am running 14-15 psi and my brothers 03 silverado with a 5.3 L cannot pass me in my caddy from a drag race. oh and by the way I had a cherry picker and engine and trans in the bed of the caddy when he couldnt get by me.
run 20-25 if you must, get the pump modified by someone like Giles and have a great dependable time.

ive been hitting over 180 bhp in my AAZ, was hoping for way more than that.
what if i use pd rods and pistons?
what engine has a 12mm pump piston?

im pretty gud with pumps.
i dont doubt that 15psi is fast but i need to be hitting 13second quater miles.
the corrado was a vr6 so i want this engine to be an upgrade to that.
i cud go pd but the word on the street is that the pumps cant take biofuel, and as forcorts mix more and more into diesel, these engines will become obselete like 4 star, thats why vw have stopped making them, also i want to learn one step at a time.

PD can't take SVO, they tolerate biodiesel.
if the goal is to make a querter mile car you just need a few calculations,
Cx of the car, frontal area , weight, tire drag, distance and desired time.
that will give you how much power you will need to deliver at the wheels.
from there you can choose gear ratios, then get to torque maps of the ideal engine.
check the torque curves of the original vr6 and the ones for a 110hp tdi, you will find that you don't need so much hp to equal the vr6

there was some crazy guy on tdiclub who ran SVO on his PD with about 60'000 or so miles. it was very clean and heated to the proper temp.
you could go PD, but then you WOULD need all the electronics. a bit of a pain.
the 220 range should be attainable by an m-TDI engine. why not look for some stock DI pumps over there? i think Renault had some non electronic TDI pumps (with LDA perhaps?) just needing a few mods to fit and run.
if you can find a '97 pump apparently you can make the TDI stuff fit?
good luck on your project! don't forget Tintin's design for the mechanical linkage for the turbo. with that setup you will be unstoppable (except if you bend a rod down low )

i know that its torque that wins races, tbh i just want to piss on a vr6. i will be copying tintins linkage for sure, lol. just about to get my hands on a set of PD internals, i know you need the crank, rods and pistons but will the crank fit straight into a VE? it seems to have an extra cog on it just behind the pully.
what work is needed to make my aaz pump fit the tdi? also what engine has a 12mm pump piston/ head i can transplant?
im building this car against the clock, tryna have it ready in 3 weeks and i wont even have a shell untill the last week so its all go, every day
tomorow is day one, engine and wiring out of donor car, strip engine to block
if anyone has done this before and has any pointers now is the time

strip that corrado to the bone , when you get the Mtdi set up you can run LPG as well as bio diesel . 15kg bottle under your seat, you need a good pump and big injectors and vnt 20 or 22 , 1Zs are 10 a penny you can aford to pop a few of those suckers i am on my 3th  a link for some info UK side

big miles on one , and i stuck a Mtdi pump together and it was not a good one and it spat the hyd follers out like broken shims and buckets bent valves broke pump, but saying that it was all my fault , i think 1Zs are very good engines , pumps that mod transit di 92 -2001 2.8 tdi iveco pump, and pug 306 405 have(9mm head) the big shaft 20mm to take the big head , montogo 2.0 di thay all have a 11mm head you should get 200hp with a 11mm good luck man

The same, or close enough to a AHU or 1Z to just stuff TDI pistons and a head on, which is what I did. Just make sure to use a TDI head gasket, not the AAZ one.

i already have an 11mm pump piston
my housing doesnt have the knock sensor thingy , will that list of other pumps just go straight on?

all those pumps need some mods to work well on a 1Z tdi , there maybe some reno  master pump 2.8tdi that may go strate on
